2024 Year In Review

2024 | New Heights

To Our Wonderful Patrons, Thank You. While 2023 was a year of planning and training, 2024 saw much of that effort come to fruition with new material and record sales.

Nearly two years of training in the realm of rock climbing allowed access to new awe-inspiring material in Red Rock Canyon that simply have not been photographed before.

New Releases Night Light, The Abstraction, and Magic Mountain all became instant favorites among our patrons offering both modern and traditional works from right here in our backyard.

The Sonoma Collection captured during a month-long adventure in July has been an immediate success with much of the collection having already been placed in wine cellars and homes across the country.

Giving Back

One of the greatest facets of building a platform in any respective field is using that platform and this resources to elevate the lives of those around you.

Haley and I were able to give more than $22,000 in cash donations to many of our favorite charities this year.

God has blessed our family beyond comprehension, and I want to honor Him with every gift He’s given me.

2023 Patrons’ Choice

Magic Mountain | Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas

Photographed on 4x5 Film on an overnight-project climbing the peaks of Red Rock Canyon, Magic Mountain is about as rare of a perspective as you will ever see from our beautiful backyard landscape.

I’ve spent the last two years climbing all over these peaks with one of my favorite routes - Crimson Chrysalis - climbing over a thousand feet up the cloud tower on Rainbow Peak right in the middle of this image.

Shooting Location of the Year

While so many beautiful locations were on the list, including several from Red Rock Canyon and the majestic backcountry of the Sierra Nevada and Kings Canyon National Park, it was tough to beat 60 degree days in July along the remote northern Sonoma Coast.

Iconic ocean-front bouldering while waiting for evening light without another soul anywhere within sight is an experience I’ll never forget.

Wine of the Year

KRUG (Vintage 2006) $$$

I’m not normally one to save bottles of wine, but this one was a gift from one of my best friends that I’ve held onto for years. Haley and I have said over and over again that we will open it when the time is right. We decided that time was New Year’s Eve. It did not disappoint.

WINE OF THE YEAR (VALUE PRICE)

Chateau La Rose du Temple 2015 $42 at Total Wine

I know the movie Sideways crushed the Merlot industry with Miles’ famous one liner, but Merlot is actually one of my favorite grapes on earth. I bought a bottle of this on a whim to try it, and after opening it, I went back and bought every bottle they had. Haha.

A Bordeaux right bank wine that drinks much older than its vintage and much more complex than its price tag. Highly Recommend.

View of the Year

Eisley overlooking the Pacific Ocean along the remote Sonoma Coast.

My daughter is 16 years old. “Time flies” sounds like a cliche until you have children. I cherish the few moments in her busy teenage life when we get to explore together. On the day I photographed Salt Air, Eisley joined me for a day of hiking, climbing, and driving the winding roads of the Sonoma Coast.

This scene as the sun was setting is as good as it gets.

20 Years with My Bride

Haley and I started dating at age 16 and 15. This summer we celebrated our 20 - Year Wedding Anniversary.

We’ve been through thick and thin together. Her faithfulness to me and the story we’ve crafted together are a gift.

I love you with my whole heart, babe.

SEND OF THE YEAR | ATMAN 5.10a (Trad)

A “Send” is a successful lead climbing attempt of a route.

After sending a few 5.11+ sport routes last year, I showed up to this one thinking it would be a piece of cake. Alas, climbing is the great killer of egos. The rocks simply don’t give a s#*t how strong you think you are. Haha. I got absolutely smoked.

While placing my second piece of gear, I slipped out of the crack and nearly hit the deck (thank God for my amazing belay partner). I went back to the gym and started training almost exclusively crack climbing.

It felt great to show up right before year end in better shape and finish this one. Next on the docket is the curvy line next to it on the left, Yin and Yang.

Leading Atman, Red Rock Canyon.

BOOKS READ

I normally do a big list of the books I’ve read over the year, but this year most were faith-based books so I won’t shove those in your face. Haha.

But I highly recommend Eiger Dreams by John Krakauer. It sheds light on much of the “why” behind the sport of climbing.
