Night Light + Magic Mountain | A 1-Minute Look Behind the Scenes

Night Light

Edition of 21

Single Exposure on Kodak E100 4x5 Film | Shen Hao 4x5 View Camera | f32 @ 6 Hours

Red Rock From Uncharted Territory

A 6-Hour Exposure under the light of the moon tells a story of the hidden beauty of Red Rock Canyon that few have or will ever experience in person. Photographed on a 2-day, overnight adventure climbing and camping under the stars among the iconic sandstone peaks of Red Rock Canyon, Night Light features the heart of our beloved Vegas backdrop from a completely original perspective.

Photographed on the summit of a sub peak of Juniper Peak, Night Light offers an awe-inspiring view highlighting many of the most prominent features of the Red Rock Range. The summit of Rose Tower hundreds of feet below and the 1200 ft Aquarium Wall glistening in the moonlight give way to the iconic Rainbow Wall and Rainbow Peak rising more than 2000 feet from the valley floor, with Mount Wilson - the tallest of the sandstone peaks - completing the distant left third of the composition.

“Climbing these walls has opened my eyes to a world that I didn’t know existed. Much like rock climbing, this image elicits a healthy fear and respect for the untamed grandeur and permanence of these mountains, and at the same time a sense of awe and peace from being immersed in such vast beauty. I can see these peaks from my home in Summerlin, and they never cease to inspire me. I will never take them for granted, and I wanted to share their story in a way that had never been done before.” - Bobby Wheat

Magic Mountain (Bonus Release)

Edition of 11

Single Exposure on Kodak E100 4x5 Film | Shen Hao 4x5 View Camera | f32 @ 4 Seconds

I had a very difficult time deciding which image to release from the shoot, so I just decided to offer both. Magic Mountain was photographed just over two hours after closing the shutter on Night Light offering an extremely different experience of the same scene. That’s the beauty of the photographic medium. Timing is everything, and in this case, I happened to get lucky twice.
