Bobby Wheat’s

Summit Series

Images from Places Less Traveled

The Project of A Lifetime

In August of 2020 Bobby began an ambitous project bringing his 4x5 Camera into the backcountry of the tallest mountains in the Contiguous United States. After his first excursion carrying his 4x5 nearly 30 miles through the mountains from Mammoth California to Silver Lake over 4 days, he knew that he would spend a lifetime returning every year to tell the stories - on Film - of places few people will ever experience. In late 2022 he began training in the world of Rock Climbing to expand the project to include some of the more unreachable places in his Summerlin backyard - Red Rock Canyon.

Bringing both a traditional eye as well his gravitation towards modern art with Double Exposures and his Signature Film Negatives, Bobby’s Summit Series offers an awe-inspiring glimpse into a world that remains largely unknown to the public eye. We hope it brings you as much inspiration as these places have brought to Bobby.

Photographed on a 2-day, overnight adventure climbing and camping under the stars among the iconic sandstone peaks of Red Rock Canyon, Night Light features the heart of our beloved Vegas backdrop from a completely original perspective.

Magic Mountain is the bonus release from this project photographed just a few hours after Night Light. The summit of Rose Tower hundreds of feet below and the 1200 ft Aquarium Wall glistening in the moonlight give way to the iconic Rainbow Wall and Rainbow Peak rising more than 2000 feet from the valley floor, with Mount Wilson - the tallest of the sandstone peaks - completing the distant left third of the composition.

The First Family

Mount Charleston, Nevada

Edition of 21

First light paints a group of Ancient Bristlecone Pine Trees above 11000 feet near the summit of Mount Charleston. Photographed on an 18-mile overnight adventure to the top of the Spring Mountains on the western edge of Las Vegas, the seclusion of these ancient wonders is also what helps to aid their preservation. Spared by fires and the elements over centuries, these trees were around long before we were here, and they’ll most likely still be around long after we are gone.
