Deux Lieux
Deux Lieux
Edition of 11
Bobby’s Recommended Presentation | Our Museum Mount (Floating) Presentation or Our Gallery Modern (Thin 3/8”W Black Frame) Presentation both suit this image to perfection.
Over the years I’ve found that the creative process often moves forward as the result of fortunate accidents. In this case a mislabeled film holder resulted in the same sheet of film exposed at two locations in the town of Colmar, which by happenstance, beautifully tells the story of the French and German cultural dichotomy that this town is known for. In another twist, “Serrurerie” seen on the sign to the left, translates to “locksmith”, a fitting compliment to the image of the quaint door at the center of the composition. Deux Lieux - which translates in French to “two places” - is a critical work that helped shift my view of photography as a traditional documentary medium to a medium of contemporary art, by extension paving the way for a series of intentional double exposures culminating most recently with “Transcendent.”
