Modern Art from 4x5 Film + Red Rock Canyon

I started training in October to be able to reach the more remote parts of Red Rock for an abstract series from our beloved backyard landscape here in Vegas.

I found and photographed this scene on medium-format film in late January while climbing in the Calico Basin area and loved the results so much that I felt the need to return to it with "The Beast" (My 4x5 Large-Format Film Camera) - despite the difficult location - in order to do the incredible detail in this scene justice. Between the approach hike and the trad climbing, getting the gear to this location was a pain in the a** (literally) but well worth it in the end.

The American Flag has been the subject in the work of many of the most iconic artist in modern history. It is fitting to have found my own rendition hidden among the high peaks of Red Rock Canyon. Live Inspired. - Bobby Wheat
